DBYN’s "Summer Exchange of Animators" or "SEA" is a cornerstone of the network. It is an exchange programme in between our member organisations, offering local volunteers at summer activities the chance to volunteer in summer activities in another country. This programme started in 2003, is self-managed by our member organisations and has an average 50 volunteers carrying out the exchange per year. Since 2015 DBYN took on the role to give quality impulses to strengthen the learning experience:

Aims & Actions
We have 3 main aims for this work plan:
To achieve these aims we will organise 4 actions:

"Beyond the SEA" is financially supported by the Council of Europe, through their European Youth Foundation. On a total budget of around € 44.000, we receive around € 29.000 support from the EYF.

Flow
The Creanimators is a 6-day programme around Easter, where local animators aspiring to go on the summer exchange will be trained in international animation. The training course drives on a peer-to-peer learning process. As the participants are themselves locally active on playgrounds and in youth centres, they bring a wealth of animation experience in the form of games, energizers, ice-breakers, story-telling ... The training course will encourage participants to share their own “culture” in animation and to explore challenges to transfer this knowledge to other cultural contexts. Next to this the participants will be introduced to the COMPASS manuals and develop themselves new approaches how to bring the methods from COMPASS to the practice on a summer playground, summer camp or summer oratorio/youth club. We will collect the animation methods brought by the participants and make them available on our existing Game APP. The newly developed HRE animation methods will be the basis of the new APP.
During the summer the participants will be active as animators on the Summer Exchange of Animators itself. They will be using their new skills in animation working with the children attending the activities. They will also share their skills with their team members. In order to create “animation” on this process, the participants of the training course will be asked to make vlogs of their experiences. DBYN will publish these vlogs on the social media channels of the Summer Exchange of Animators. The vlogs will be collected and published during the whole summer period.
The symposium brings together 3 parties. The sending and host organisations which are responsible for the preparation, integration and follow-up of the international animator in the summer activities. The animator who carries out the exchange, and plays an important role in transferring new competences to the host organisation and their volunteers. DBYN trainers, which are responsible for the qualitative development of education within the network and its member organisations. They will assess the outcomes of the training course, the practical implementation of Human Rights Education in local summer activities and the Vlog campaign. From this assessment they will develop procedures, quality measures, tools and resources which can be used in future to continue the integration of HRE in our summer activities.
In follow-up of the symposium we will develop a final report (e-publication), which will collect the outcomes of the symposium. With the HRE animation methods developed, we will produce a new APP and promote it inside our network and beyond. Inside the network this will allow us to share the outcomes with future generations of animators. Beyond the network this will allow us to promote an animation-friendly-format of HRE for summer activities with children and youth.
