The DBYN training course “FATE” (From Animation To Education) took place in Don Bosco Center in Assel (Netherlands). Many different European nationalities have been represented by returned volunteers who are interested in keeping on working in a Don Bosco environment.
During these five days we got to know each other and had the important opportunity to share and exchange our voluntary-service-experiences. This led us furthermore to the main goal of the course. For this, guided by the animators, we developed ways of how to use human rights oriented animation to start human rights education. There have been important informal parts, which introduced us step by step in the matter of practicing. Facts about human rights and creative ways of how to take a closer look at them, different methods of animation and gender issues resulted in practical activities: We worked in smaller and bigger groups, created new human rights oriented games and shared our thoughts concerning the work done in the previous symposium in Germany. The high point of the week was our personal action plan. We developed a concrete plan how to introduce the new gained knowledge in our local communities. This whole time was framed by quality time between the participants and animators too, like for example the intercultural evening. Every country presented some traditional, food, drinks, dances etc. Besides, every day started by a good morning and ended with a good night, like Giovanni Bosco did with his youth. The seminar concluded with an original mass held by a Salesian Chaplain and the Farewell Party.
