  • 10-month voluntary service (September 2022 to June 2023)
  • in Austria (Vienna, Klagenfurt & Vöcklabruck)
  • for 18-30 year old young people
  • Apply here: volunteers.donbosco.at/de/home/bewerbungsformular.html
The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Salesian Sisters (FMA) in Austria offer a ten-month voluntary service in the field of education for young adults from 18 to 30 years from Europe. Our association “Don Bosco Volunteers” is funded by the “European Solidarity Corps”.
The volunteers help in education (youth centres, educational programmes, house for migrants). Accommodation, lodging, language course and a ticket for public transport are free for the volunteers. Additionally, they receive 150 euros pocket money per month. There is a formative programme from the European Union (two three-day courses) and Salesian formation (pilgrimage to Turin, course of Salesian pedagogy and a weekend for reflection).
Currently we have seven positions for volunteers in four different places: two places in Vienna (Salesianum (1 position), Don Bosco Sozialwerk (4 positions)), one in Klagenfurt (1 male volunteer), one in Vöcklabruck (1 female volunteer). You will find more information at www.donbosco.at/volunteers.

General information: Don Bosco Volunteers in Austria coordinates volunteering opportunities in five different places and supports the volunteer to develop their own skills and knowledge. Changes in the timetable are possible according to the needs and wishes of the volunteer.

Requirements:
  • Interest in working with children and young people
  • Flexibility in working in different fields, creativity
  • At least basic communication skills in German are necessary

Practical arrangements:
  • The volunteer has at least a double room (shared with another volunteer) with shower and bathroom.
  • The voluntary service is 30-38 hours a week. If the volunteer works overtime, those hours can be recuperated at a later stage.
  • The volunteer receives 2 days of holiday for each month. The concrete arrangements will be made with the local contact person.
  • The food is organized in different ways in the host organisations (canteen, cook by yourself, etc.). In any case it is paid by the host organisation.
  • The volunteer receives a monthly allowance according to the ESC guidelines (5 € per each day).
  • The means by transport for the arrival in Austria will be organised with the office in Vienna. Our volunteering opportunities are all located in cities with a good public transport system. The host organisation gives to the volunteers a mobility ticket and/or a bicycle.
  • The volunteer will meet the mentor on a regular basis, deciding together on the required frequency and nature of the meetings.
  • At the end the volunteer will get a “Youthpass” certificate.

Training during the voluntary service: The participants join the obligatory trainings (On Arrival, Midterm) organised by the Austrian National Agency. Additionally, Don Bosco Volunteers organise for the volunteers of the organisation three trainings: 4-day trip to Turin for our national and international volunteers, one-day study programme on educational issues and a weekend for reflexion.

We kindly ask you to inform the youngsters of your institution and province about this possibility. We are happy to welcome young adults who already have experience in Salesian education and animation.
The next period for volunteering is from September 2022 to June 2023. We can offer a volunteering opportunity for seven persons funded by the Solidarity Corps. The deadline for applications (with CV and motivational letter) is the 30th June 2022 with the form at volunteers.donbosco.at/de/home/bewerbungsformular.html or by email at volunteers@donbosco.atvolunteers@donbosco.at.
